Finger-print Patterns in Congenital Heart Disease.

چکیده
The problem of the etiology of congenital heart disease has lately been attracting increasing attention. Most studies, to date, have dealt with family histories, and the results of these suggest that recessive inheritance may account for a significant number of cases. The demonstration of an association between individual types of congenital heart disease and somatic hereditary traits could be of value both in the ascertainment of the genetic causation of the condition and perhaps in the diagnosis of the anomaly. Dermatoglyphs (finger-prints) are an example of such a somatic hereditary trait; and these prints have recently proved of great interest in the study of chromosome aberrations (Penrose, 1963). This paper reports briefly our preliminary observations of the finger-print patterns from 150 patients with congenital heart disease as compared with those from 50 control subjects: it is planned to report on the palm print subsequently. Although the number of patients so far studied is rather small, some interesting findings have already emerged. In some respects the results are still inconclusive, but they indicate the need for further work in this field.

Palm-print Pattern in Congenital Heart Disease
In a previous paper (Sainchez Cascos, 1964) the results of an analysis of the finger-print pattern in a series of 150 patients with congenital heart disease were presented. Statistically significant differences were found between the patients as a whole and a normal control group and also between different diagnostic groups in the series. These differences seemed to be due to a relatively small...

متن کاملIdentification of Dermatoglyphic Patterns in Parents of Children with Cystic Fibrosis
Background Dermatoglyphics could assist in the diagnosis of congenital abnormalities. The aim of this study was to identify the dermatoglyphic patterns (finger print pattern type, total ridge count of each finger, a-b ridge count, and articulotrochanteric distance [ATD angles]) in the parents of cystic fibrosis children. Materials and Methods We recruited 75 parents of children with cystic fibr...
متن کاملAlopecia Areata and Dermatoglyphics
Objective: To study of relationship between alopecia areata and finger print dermatoglyphic types in 100 patients with alopecia areata and in 100 controls. Methods: A case control analytical study was done on fingerprints of patients with alopecia areata. The control cases were older than 50 years old without any history of alopecia areata. Dermatoglyphical trials of total fingers were al...

Background and Aim: Fingerprint (dermatoglyphic patterns) is one of the oldest, best, cheapest, and most reliable proofs of identification. The present study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between dermatoglyphic patterns and some skin diseases namely atopic eczema, vitiligo, and acne vulgaris. Materials and Methods: In this case–control study, qualitative and quantitive dermatogly...
